Theater Performances - The Tawas Bay Players present the drama "The Subject Was Roses" at the theater, 401 Newman Street, East Tawas:

Blood Drive - The American Red Cross will hold a Blood Drive on Wednesday, May 15th from Noon-5:45pm in the East Tawas Community Center, 760 Newman Street, East Tawas. For more information visit RedCrossBlood.org.

 

Birthday & Anniversary Celebration - The Alcona County Commission on Aging will host a celebration of May Birthdays and Anniversaries on Thursday, May 16th in the Senior Center Dining Hall, 207 South Church Street, Lincoln. Dinner of sweet and sour chicken, rice, and mixed vegetables will be served from 4:00-5:00pm. Reservations requested by calling 989-334-3466.

 

Birding Celebration - The AuSable Valley Audubon's Spring Birding Celebration will be held at Tawas Point State Park:

  • Friday, May 17th from 8:00am-Dusk
  • Saturday, May 18th from 8:00-Dusk

Volunteers can help you experience the bird migration. Recreation Passport or Day Pass required for park entry. For more information visit AuSableValleyAudubon.org

 

Native Plants - The Friends of the Tawas Point Lighthouse and State Park Native Plant Sale Fundraiser will be held on Saturday, May 18th from 9:00am-Noon or when they run out of plants, on the Lighthouse lawn. Prices range from $4-$10 with cash, check, or credit cards via PayPal accepted. A list of plants available can be found on the Tawas Point Lighthouse and State Park Facebook page.

 

Chicken Dinner - The Tawas Masonic Lodge will hold a Takeout Chicken Dinner on Saturday, May 18th from 11:00am-2:00pm at the Lodge, 1140 U.S. 23 across from Freel's Market in Tawas City. Half a baked chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, roll, and dessert. Cost is $12.50, takeout only.

 

Art Open House - The Tawas Bay Art Gallery will host their Spring Into Art Open House on Saturday, May 18th from 11:00am-4:00pm at the Gallery, 302 Newman Street in East Tawas. $5 mini-workshops including Felting, Alcohol Ink, Watercolor, and Photography to take home. Featured Artist is Paul Bliesman with stained glass. Refreshments will also be available. For more information call 989-362-5613.

 

Mind Matters - AuSable Valley Community Mental Health Authority, in honor of May, Mental Health Awareness Month, will hold their 4th Annual Mind Matters Event on Saturday, May 18th from 11:00am-2:00pm in the East Tawas Community Center and Bolen Park in East Tawas. The free event features activites of enrichment and recreation to help improve and maintain mental health. Community resource information, prize raffle, snacks, and giveaways. Free Fun Event - AuSable Valley Community Mental Health Authroity, in honor of May, Mental Helath Awareness Month, will hold a Free Fun Event on Saturday, May 18th from 11:00am-2:00pm in the Skidway Lake Library, 2196 Greenwood Road in Prescott. Tennis Camp Registration - Registration is open for the 4-day beginner t ennis camp June 10th-13th at the Oscoda Sports Complex on River Road in Oscoda. Cost is $30 per participant. Players receive a t-shirt and age-appropriate racket. Sessions split up by age group:

  • Ages 7-9: 5:15-6:10pm
  • Ages 10-12: 6:15-7:15pm
  • Agest 13-18: 7:15-8:30pm

First Responders - "Keeping Your Family Safe" East Tawas First Responders Meet & Greet will be held on Sunday, May 19th from 2:00-4:00pm at the Tawas Bay Eagles, 803 East Bay Street in East Tawas. Fire and Police Departments, EMS, and Dispatch. Giveaways and activities for the kids. Plus pulled chicken, hot dogs, and sides for a $5 donation per person. All proceeds go to the East Tawas First Responders.

 

Grocery Giveawas - The Northeast Michigan Community Service Agency's Golden Grocery Giveaway for income eligible seniors 60 and older will be held Wednesday, May 22nd:

  • 9:00-10:00am in the Plainfield Township Community Center, 415 East Main Street in Hale
  • 11:00-11:30am at Tawas Area Presbyterian Church, 2095 East U.S. 23 in East Tawas
  • 12:00-12:30pm at Sacred Heart Church, 5300 North U.S. 23 in Oscoda

Grocery Giveaway - The Northeast Michigan Community Service Agency's Golden Grocery Giveaway for income eligible seniors 60 and older will be held Tuesday, May 21st from 10:00-11:00am at the Oscoda County Fairgrounds, 1889 Caldwell Road in Mio. For eligibility information call 989-358-4712.

 

Iosco Christian Women - The Iosco Christian Women will hold a meeting on Tuesday, May 21st from 7:00-8:30pm at Hale Methodist Church, 201 West Main Street in Hale. The guest speaker will be Judy Herbolsheimer of the Hale Assemby of God. RSVP at IoscoChristianWomen.com

 

Summer Concert Series - The Rotary Club of Oscoda presents the 2024 Summer Concert Series. All concerts are held on THURSDAY nights and begin at 7:00pm at the Oscoda Beach Bandshell. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Pop, popcorn, and snow cones will be sold. In case of inclement weather the concert will be moved to The AuSable Inn Riverview Restaurant. Oscoda Senior Center - Visit the Oscoda Senior Center located at 653 State Street SW in Oscoda. Enjoy great food, line dancing, cardio drumming, card games, crafts, board games, relaxation coloring, nature walks, the writing club, and meeting new friends and socializing with friends and neighbors. K of C Burger Night - Did you miss Fish and Burger Monday's at the Rushman Hall in East Tawas? Dinners are from 4:30pm to 6:30pm, dine in or take out.  There will be fish and a 1/2 lb Smash Burger and a whole lot more. So come on in for some fantastic food and burgers. Hale Bingo - The Hale VFW hosts Bingo Sundays & Thursdays at the Hall, 203 Ainsley Street in Hale. Doors open at 3:30pm, Bingo starts at 6:00pm.

 

Mikado Bingo - The Mikado Goodfellos hosts Bingo Mondays at the Civic Center on F-41. Doors open at 4:00pm, Bingo at 6:30pm. Food available for puchase and all proceeds go to charity.

 

Sand Lake Bingo - The Sand Lake Heights Seniors host Bingo Tuesdays at the building in Sand Lake. Doors open at 11:00am, Bingo at Noon with proceeds to the Sand Lake Seniors.


Euchre Day - The Alcona County Commission on Aging hosts Euchre Day on Tuesdays beiginning at 12:30pm at the Senior Center, 207 South Church Street in Lincoln. Tickets are one dollar, 10 cents per Euchre, free popcorn and coffee. Call 989-334-3466 for more information.

 

Cancer Support - Friends Together, the cancer support agency serving all of northeast Michigan is holidng a support group Tuesdays at 5:30pm at Rushman Hall on Newman Street in East Tawas. Anyone who has been touched by cancer, or if you have a family member with a cancer diagnosis, you are welcome to the weekly support group. All Friends Together programs and services are free. Line Dancing - "Thursday Night at the V," Line Dancing Class will be held Thursdays from 6:00-8:00pm at VFW Lodge #3735, 240 Chrysler in Oscoda. Sand Lake Bingo - The Sand Lake Heights Men's Association will host Bingo with a Michigan Progressive Jackpot, Fridays at the building in Sand Lake. Doors open at 5:00pm, Bingo at 6:00pm.

 

Food Pantry - If you or someone you know is in need of food, there is a free food pantry available at the United Methodist Church in Oscoda. The Pantry is located by the entry doors nearest to the church parsonage. The Pantry is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The Pantry is refilled by community donations. All items are free to those who need them.

 

Baby Needs - If you or someone you know is in need of free supplies for babies or toddlers, such as diapers, pull-ups, wipes, or rash cream, these are avaiable through Iosco County MDHHS. You must be a resident of Iosco County to qualify. As the front desk staff at MDHHS for more information: Iosco County MDHHS, 2145 East Huron Road, East Tawas, MI 48730.
